An intensive course in expository writing, College Writing teaches students to write effectively by using correct grammar, sound logic, and persuasive rhetoric. Through writing, revision, reading, and discussion, students will learn to analyze the relationships between writing and thinking. With rigorous attention to cultural and historical perspectives, students will develop a strong awareness of implicit biases, values, and judgments in their writing and that of other writers. Although students will discuss the work of different authors, their own writing will be the primary focus of the study, as they develop writing skills that are appropriate within a college environment as well as outside it. In addition, students will also learn basic public speaking skills through guided oral presentation exercises based on written assignments.
